Participation in the tri-jam on 08/06/2025 as part of our video game studies at the Haute École Albert Jacquard (Namur, Belgium).

We were two in the making of this small game, and it took us approximately 3 hours each for the design, programming, and integration.

The game lacks polish, but we are happy to have something playable.

Description:

An allied airship carrying highly sensitive packages with critical information was hit while flying over the border between two warring nations.

You play as a scout ordered to retrieve the documents being dropped from the damaged airship by allied forces. Retrieving them all is the key to winning the conflict.

Controls:

Left and Right directional arrow to move the character.

Postmortem:

  • Why and how did we come to this idea of game mechanic?
This idea came after a (long) brainstorming session to find something that would fit the theme of this game jam and that would be simple code-wise, since this was the part of the process that was less accessible given our skills. A 'Catcher' game ended up as the most fitting choice.
  • What did we find fun in this concept?
As fans of retro gaming, we found it fun to create a minigame/arcade-style game. We also experienced a 'frustration-reward' type of fun during the beta testing, since we had to play it multiple times to check if everything was working correctly.
  • What kind of issues did we encounter during the jam?
Finding the right gameplay for this theme and making sure all our game objects were in the right place no matter the screen resolution.
  • Updates due to the feedback:
    Fixing the resolution issues*
Adding an UI to know how many boxes you picked up*
    Adding an arcade mode*
Adding background music and sound effects*
  • Remaining issues:
*We fixed everything in an update that would be uploaded shortly after the end of the Game Jam playtesting phase.
  • Areas for improvement:
Adding a mechanic of boost and malus for the player to avoid monotony in the gameplay.
